Chronology of the Awakened Legends Campaigns

The Awakened Legends campaigns are part of the larger Lúmequentalë Númenostan, the fancy name I have given to the many interrelated Dungeons & Dragons campaigns I have run since I started gaming in 1980.  More on the Lúmequentalë Númenostan can be found here, including a a chronology of the campaigns. The Awakened Legends have marked a return to the Greyhawk campaign setting after decades of running campaigns primarily in the Forgotten Realms and Spelljammer settings.

This chronology only mentions non-campaign events that impact southern Keoland and its surrounding lands.

Chronology

582 CY The continent wide "Greyhawk Wars" begin in the Flanaess. At first they seem focused to the north around Iuz and Furyondy, and in the east around the Great Kingdom, far from Keoland.

583 CY At the height of the Greyhawk Wars, giants from the surrounding mountains conquer the Grand Duchy of Geoff and Sterich. The Scarlett Brotherhood conquers the Hold of the Sea Princes through assassinations and threats, followed by an occupation army of savage Suel warriors from southern jungles. The Brotherhood manages a naval blockade Gradsul, but the Keoland's fleet prevents any landing. The Brotherhood sends a  savage army of Suel warriors and humanoids through the Hool Marshes and into the Dreadwood. There a strong force of Keoland elves fought the savages to a standstill and drive them back out of Keoland.

end of 584 CY  Pact of Greyhawk ends the Greyhawk Wars

585 CY to 588 CY Supported by Keoland, the people of Sterich reclaim their land from the feuding giant warlords.

Mid-589 CY Rumors of a civil war breaking out deep in the Hold of Sea Princes reach Keoland.

Harvester (September) thru Patchwall (October), 589 CY The "Secrets of Saltmarsh" campaign begins when the party explores the Haunted House outside of Saltmarsh. They discover a secret band of smugglers trading with the pirates & Scarlett Brotherhood of the Hold of the Sea Princes, and they capture their ship, the Sea Ghost.  [U1 The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh]

1-4 Patchwall (October) 589 CY Next, tracking down the smuggling ring, the party heads to the small village of Marais d’Tarascon on the border of the Hool Marshes, they discover that one of the d’Tarascon brother lords of the place has become a zombie lord, and they defeat his horde of zombies and recover the Scroll of Hyksosa, which appears to be a prophecy relevant to recent happens. They take the surviving brother to Seaton for the King's justice. While exploring the local cemetery they discovered a stranger, Höss, who came from another world, a mythic "Earth" where he was a Prussian soldier.

10-15 Patchwall (October) 589 CY Some of the party members adventured in the swamps around Sarruh’s Rest Inn. Rickus recovers a Wand of Wonder from the mad wizard Iyarim's hidden lair beneath the Black Statue of Irongard. They also save the innkeeper's daughter, Martinique from the amourous advances of Wendall the Singing Troll. [Dungeon #18 “Ironguard" and Dungeon #40] “Song of the Fens”]

They discover that the true enemy is a tribe of sahuagin that are ravaging the coast and will soon come for Saltmarsh. After slaying a small dragon at their behest, the form an alliance with the lizard men. Some of the party heads inland to explore the Tower of the Ghost Prince, following clues in the Hyksosa Scroll about up coming events. [U2 Danger at Dunwater and HHQ2 Wizard’s Challenge]

25 Patchwall (October) to 5 Ready'reat (November), 589 CY Höss hires a small company of Perrenland mercenaries and Guilliam is given command of small band of Royal Keoland men-at-arms to reinforce Saltmarsh's excise men and town militia. Saltmarsh's defenders and their lizardmen, locathah, triton, aquatic elf, and mermen allies launch a preemptive attackk on the sahuagin lair. The party leads this assault, probing first the above water portions of the lair then using magic to dive deep into the cavernous heart of the lair, where they destroy the temple and the lair itself. Then, the learned more of this family in the Tower of the Ghost Prince, once one of the family. They discovered that for a century or so, the Ambers were one of the major powers in the Sheldomar Valley. In particular, the seventh and last leader of the house, Prince Stephen Amber (aka Etienne d'Amberville), was one of the most powerful magic-users in the history of Keoland. Suddenly, however, the entire Amber family and their mansion, Castle Amber, disappeared. They were never seen again and no one knows for sure what happened to them. In time, the Ambers became legends, the subjects of tales to frighten misbehaving children. Rickus came to believe they were originally from the same mythic "Earth" as Höss.  The party discovered the location of the mansion, also known as Chateau d'Ambreville, and went in search of it. they found the mansion, traveled to the province of Averoigne on mythic "Earth", freed the castle's cursed inhabitants and Etienne d'Amberville. he rewarded them with much magic.  [X2 Castle Amber (Château d' Amberville)]
